We say it’s never too early to plan for the holidays, and that includes fun holiday activities for the whole family. Here’s a sample printable Christmas bingo card you can create and play with friends and family of all ages. Be sure to bookmark them for next year!

Christmas Bingo Cards provides this list of bingo variations and more details after the jump:

Four Corners. Pretty self-explanatory. Cover the four corners of the card.
The Box. Fill the four lines around the outside of the bingo card.
The Little Box. Fill the center square and the eight squares surrounding it.
X Marks The Spot. Fill both diagonals running through the center square..
The Cross. Fill both the vertical and horizontal lines that run through the middle square, also known as The Plus.
Rows. Starting with the first row, fill the first, third, and fifth rows. Or, fill the second and fourth rows, maybe for a smaller prize.
Stripes. Same rules as above, but use for the vertical. Also known as columns.
The Intersection. Any row, column, or diagonal that intersects with another complete row, column, or diagonal.
The Right Triangle. Either diagonal plus two sides that form a right triangle.
The Diamond. The diamond formed by connecting the middle square of each side. It consists of 8 squares.
Blackout. Another self-explanatory variation. Blackout your card by filling every square. This variation can also be called Coverall.
Letter Bingo. Create patterns for each letter of the alphabet, or even better, let your students figure out patterns for each letter.

Most people are familiar with the traditional game of bingo played using printed cards containing numbers. Pretty much all of us have at one point or another, either played the game ourselves, or at least seen others playing the game. In the past obtaining the specially themed bingo cards to play these variants was quite difficult and expensive – you had to send-off to a specialist manufacturer to get them. Today however it is easy: you can simply print bingo cards or any theme you like from your computer. Most people know how to play the game of bingo, after all it’s a game that many of us either played as kids or learned to enjoy in later life. The idea of the game is quite simple: every player is given a bingo card (sometimes known as a “bingo board” or “bingo sheet”), each of the squares contains an item (traditionally a number), and players tick off squares when the corresponding items are called out by the bingo caller. The objective of the game is to be the first player to get a continuous line of items diagonally, vertically or horizontally across the card, and then claim the win by calling out “Bingo!”.

As already mentioned, in traditional versions of bingo, the items in the squares of the bingo card are numbers. Today however many variations of the standard game have also become popular, and in these variants, words, phrases, dates, times or even math problems can be used for the items on the cards.

- Holiday versions of bingo are increasingly popular. Bingo is a great activity for family and community events since people of all ages can play together. In holiday variants of the game, words or phrases relating to the particular holiday are used, so words like “Advent” or “Santa Claus” in a Christmas game, or “Revolution” or “George Washington” in an Independence Day game.

- Bingo games with words and phrases are popular in K-12, English as Second Language (ESL) and foreign language teaching. They’re a fun way for students to practice word recognition, reading and spelling.

- Bingo cards can also be printed with math problems. They’re good way to practice multiplication tables (“times tables”) as well as arithmetic. Students are required to write in the correct answers to problems as they are called out, rather than simply ticking items off their cards.

A Bingo card is a rectangular grid of five columns and five rows with 24 numbers and one blank. All the 24 numbers on the Bingo cards are displayed in a random fashion.
