Blind Player Permitted Use of Audio Bingo Cards

Saturday, October 24th, 2009

A victory for sight-impaired  bingo players and others with disabilities:

“The cards have an audio chip to read card numbers, allowing those with sight problems to hear the card numbers rather than see the numbers. The cards make it much easier for blind or visually-impaired people to play bingo, however when fellow players complained about Joanna’s cards, she was told by her bingo club that she had to mute the sounds, or she was not permitted to play.

After filing a complaint with the Racing and Wagering Board, Joanna was eventually granted to right to use her audible bingo cards, and as a result of this landmark ruling, bingo halls are now required by law to allow audible cards to be used by all players, including visually-impaired players.”
