Well, I Never…: Bingo Cheating Revealed

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

We were fascinated by these accounts in the Dear Aunt Bingo column of the Bingo Bugle, of how people cheat in bingo hall games where computers or screens aren’t used.  There are accounts of different types of cheating in bingo halls.   If you suspect there are cheaters, try to figure out if it’s a systemic problem or just a matter of one or two individuals.  The column suggests writing a petition and getting signatures to draw attention to the issue.

Here’s an excerpt:

“It goes like this: On a fairly good-sized jackpot, usually on a fairly low number of calls, (15 to 25), someone yells Bingo. He is number one of the group that is cheating. The floor worker picks up his card (he is number 2) and goes to someone that is playing but sitting 15 feet away or so (this is person number 3). The floor worker calls back the winning pattern, but he is calling from the board of called numbers. The verifier says yes and nods his head, and the floor worker gives back the card to the winner.

From week to week, they change places as number 2 and 3. This cannot be used often, if only three are involved, but extend it to 6 or 7 people and the combinations are endless. The only person that needs to be involved every time is the floor worker. They cannot get by with a large jackpot, as it requires a manager usually to verify. But a whole bunch of small winnings add up quickly. Of course they all split the winnings and go merrily along their way. The regulars can spot it in a minute, but the moment passes and all evidence is gone. I do not play those halls.”

Online Bingo Sites In the U.S.

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

It’s sometimes difficult to determine which online bingo sites are accessible to U.S. residents.  Without getting into the litany of rules, you’ll find that online bingo differs in terms of games played, bonus amounts and locations served.  Many non-US bingo sites seem to offer more in the way of other types of gambling that may violate some US restrictions.

In this article, you’ll find a list of reputable US bingo sites.

With the rising popularity of US bingo online, there are a number of online bingo sites for US players that have entered the market. Although legislation passed in the United States that has made some bingo sites make the decision not to service the US market, there are still plenty of safe, trusted and legal US online bingo sites accepting players from the United States of America.

Friday, September 4th, 2009

The UK is just as fanatical about bingo as we are in the United States.  And just as rules and prizes change from one bingo hall to the next, there are differences between the UK and US versions of the game.

We came across an article in BingoMag that lays out the main rules of each.  Now wherever you are, you’ll have your game on. (more…)

I’m Backing Bingo! Keep bingo tax at 15%

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Bingo players outside the UK may be unaware of the bingo battle raging.  The issue seems to center around a tax hike on licensed bingo clubs that could potentially put many out of business.  The group argues that bingo tax should be consistent with other gambling tax rates such as online poker, betting exchanges and football pools.
