How Online Bingo Cards Differ From the Bingo Hall

Monday, October 5th, 2009

While some of the same conventions exist in offline bingo hall games and online bingo, there are a few major differences.   One main difference is that in offline bingo, you can often keep your cards for as long as you like.  In online bingo, a new bingo card is generated for every game.  Below, Bingo Street explains how and why this happens:

“The random number generator powers the computer software so that the bingo balls are offered in a random fashion. This programme is based on algorithms. The online bingo cards use a similar random generator, and each time you join a game of bingo online, new bingo cards are created at random.
The reason you can’t keep playing with the same bingo cards in online bingo is that it would throw the RNG off balance, either giving you an unfair advantage or could even hinder your playing, so every player receives new randomly generated bingo cards at the start of each fresh game of bingo online to keep everything fair and as random as possible.

Another thing to keep in mind when talking about the probability of winning and online bingo cards is that most players will play the maximum number of cards per game, so your chances of winning will increase with every bingo card you purchase. Just remember that your online bingo buddies will be doing exactly the same, keeping it a pretty even playing field.”

Be Alert: Unwritten Rules of Bingo Etiquette

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

Beginning bingo players may not always be aware of the unwritten rules of bingo hall play.   Some of these items are fairly obvious, but are commonly violated nevertheless.    Bingo halls should be thought of like any public, social situation where certain types of behavior (i.e. screaming or smoking) aren’t always welcome.   Here’s an excerpt of a good list of rules to abide by regardless of where you play:

“Pipe down. The most important of all unwritten rules. You’ll notice that regular players pipe down instantly as soon as the caller gets down to business.

Watch out for lucky seats. Some players are very particular about where they sit. If you grab a seat that happens to be a lucky one, you might be asked to move. It’s a good idea to go along with the request.

Don’t be a parrot. Some people have a habit of repeating numbers as they are called. This might help them concentrate, but it can be very distracting for other players. Try to keep talking and extra noise to an absolute minimum while numbers are being called.

Keep kids quiet. Most people will understand if you have to bring the kids, but they won’t tolerate rambunctious youngsters running around and yelling while they are trying to concentrate. Bring an activity or three to keep your children occupied while you play. Sometimes, the hall may offer “fun” bingo cards to keep the kiddies occupied.”

Baby Shower Bingo Games

Friday, September 18th, 2009

This is a great resource for how to throw a baby shower bingo game.

To organize games for baby showers, make sure you:

  • Plan the games ahead.
  • Have enough copies for everyone.
  • Gathered the materials or supplies needed ahead of time
  • Have pens for everyone
  • Have something for everyone to write on- clipboards, books or magazines work
  • Plan a time limit for each game or the games as a whole. In general, 30 minutes is probably plenty of game playing.
  • Keep a copy of the games for the mother-to-be’s baby book.
  • Use a basket to collect all of your game supplies. Tuck it in one corner of the room so that you are ready before the party begins.
  • Have prizes. They always make the party fun.

Chosing games for a baby shower for an adopted baby is a bit different.  A portion of traditional baby shower games have something to do with a mother’s pregnancy. But, there are still lots of other games that have to do with the baby and are suitable for an adopted baby shower.

Bingo Essentials For Beginners

With so many options for bingo equipment, we found this article helpful in describing the basics.  While some bingo equipment, like bingo cards, are critical, others are a nice-to-have.  The article includes price ranges for things like bingo balls, bingo cards, daubers, masterboards and more.

Also, if you’re starting up a game, we suggest taking a look at used bingo equipment.  Many bingo suppliers sell refurbished equipment at a great discount, enabling you to get your game started with the option to upgrade later.

Here’s an excerpt:

“In a bingo game, the most important ingredient is the bingo cards. In buying bingo cards, you can go for sheets of paper bingo cards or hard bingo cards. Paper bingo cards have some terms such as 3 on 5 up. That means 5 sheets of paper with 3 bingo cards. The hard bingo cards are more expensive than the paper bingo cards. The good point with hard bingo cards is that it can be used several times without being worn out. On which to which are better for your purposes, that depends on you.

Then we go to bingo balls. These are those things that carry numbers. Bingo balls come in different sizes and price. A set of bingo ball can go from $15 to $250. Purchase one along with your budget and preference. Just make sure that ones you bought fit the cages or bingo blowers perfectly.

Next, we need something to contain our bingo balls: namely the bingo cage. You use a bingo cage in drawing the bingo balls randomly. Some say this is the most costly bingo supply you need to buy. The price ranges for bingo cages are at $60 to $200. Well, if you have a really big, big budget for bingo equipment, you may like bingo ball blowers that cost around a thousand dollars.”
